First of all,i would like to express my deepest condolence to those who lost their love ones on the recent tsunami disaster in Japan...after the disaster, i came to know that tsunami would have big chances to hit along seaside of Sabah..i was quite worried about the warning as the thought of my family n relatives might be in trouble..thankfully the warning was off and i thank God for it...but my heart sank as i watch few videos caught on the recent disaster in Japan, i am grateful on what i still have..shelter,food and water..and most of all, my love ones...
i done some research and jolt it down in case anyone haven't knew what tsunamis are...what is Tsunami?Tsunami actually originated form Japanese word with the English translation, "harbor wave." Represented by two characters, the top character, "tsu," means harbor, while the bottom character, "nami," means "wave." In the past, tsunamis were sometimes referred to as "tidal waves" by the general public, and as "seismic sea waves" by the scientific community.
The term "tidal wave" is a misnomer; although a tsunami's impact upon a coastline is dependent upon the tidal level at the time a tsunami strikes, tsunamis are unrelated to the tides. Tides result from the imbalanced, extraterrestrial, gravitational influences of the moon, sun, and planets. The term "seismic sea wave" is also misleading. "Seismic" implies an earthquake-related generation mechanism, but a tsunami can also be caused by a nonseismic event, such as a landslide or meteorite impact.
Tsunami are large, powerful waves caused by sudden displacement of large quantities of water in the sea / ocean. Common causes for the displacement of large quantities of water are: earth quakes, volcanic activity and landslides. They can also be caused by detonation of nuclear devices under water, or by the impact of an asteroid. As the wave of a tsunami moves into shallower water, it gets much higher, so they can be very big and very destructive when they hit coastal areas. Sometimes (but not always) the water will recede dramatically just before a tsunami strikes a coastal region - if you see the sea suddenly pull back, going further out than a normal low tide in a very short time then you really want to get out of there as quickly as possible and seek safety! Here's a vids from the disaster...
here's what our first lady think of the tsunami which hits Japan..i personally think it is quite a stupid statement..does she have a heart..at all?
God bless Japan..
